Who founded Rusty’s Bicycle Recycle?
Russell “Rusty” J. Durham
How did Rusty’s Bicycle Recycle start?
Rusty’s Bicycle Recycle began with Rusty’s childhood passion for tinkering with bikes. Over the years, he became the go-to bike fixer in his neighborhood. In 2006, while serving supper at the Coalition for the Homeless, Rusty noticed the poor condition of the bikes there and started bringing repaired bikes for those in need. By March 2008, he was invited to repair bikes at the Coalition, where he and four homeless men fixed 27 bikes on the first day. Since then, Rusty and his team have continued to repair and deliver hundreds of bikes to charities in Orlando, helping 1500 to 2000 individuals each year with transportation.
